Host's Report by Tris Best, OTC.

I think the goal for the second BSA event in Weymouth was to end the 2010 series on a high, and try to push the number of people participating, particularly in the amateur and masterblaster fleets. It's always hard to gauge numbers before the event, but I had a sneaky suspicion we were going to do okay - speaking to Bob Ingram (UKWA) I thought his estimate of 50 entrants was a bit conservative but I kept quiet. Wish I saw his face when more than double that enrolled on Saturday!

On the day, I don't think there could have been a better set up for the event. The date was nestled between Speed Week and a National Youth Squad training week; the venue and sailing area itself is simply tailor-made to host events … and the conditions were perfect. From a local perspective the event was immense - lots of the kids in the local Team 15 group took part, as well as many of the Weymouth Massif. The atmosphere was contagious - a triathlon friend who'd only windsurfed five times (and never planed before!), decided to give the masterblaster racing a go. He later commented the camaraderie was much the same as during his tri events - now that's something to take into 2011 and push. In fact, it's inspired us here to run a Winter Slalom Series, which will take place from OTC UK every other Saturday morning from 9.30am.
